Cooking in Pre-school

bread“Cooking with kids is not just about ingredients, recipes, and cooking. It’s about harnessing imagination, empowerment, and creativity.”
Guy Fieri

Practitioners have observed that Leila, Tilly and Emily have been very creative exploring and manipulating the play dough, making lots of detailed designs. In addition to this practitioners observed that Thomas and George have been pretending their dough represents bread.

We planned an activity to support our children’s interests by inviting Sebastian’s mum into Pre-School to make bread with the children.

The children explored the ingredients weighing them out then mixing them together with water to make dough.

The children were amazed at how the dough doubled in size as it was left to prove. It was then time for the children to use their gross motor skills to knead the dough into shape before creating some fabulous designs. These gross movements support the children’s muscles to strengthen which will in turn support their writing skills.

The children helped us to pop the dough into the oven to make wonderful and tasty bread!
We would like to say a big thank you to Alison for coming in and supporting us with this activity.
