Supporting Apprenticeships at Townhouse

An apprenticeship is a great way for young people to enter the early years sector. Townhouse have a long history of providing high quality training and mentoring for apprentices and we hugely value this route into childcare as a great way to nurture and grow our own superstars for the future!

Mya has recently joined us as an apprentice and is working with our younger children. During her time in Toddler Room 1 she is being closely supported by her assigned mentor, Lucy. Mya is eager to be involved in the children’s teaching and learning, showing enthusiasm, curiosity and an eagerness to learn about the various teaching experiences we provide for our children.

Lucy has mentored Mya to create a focussed planned activity for one of our children who always shows a great interest in mark making. Setting out with the learning intention of supporting this child to create a variety of marks using different media that can then contribute to a beautiful summer display.

Mya encouraged a wide range of learning by using descriptive language as she discussed with the children what they had been drawing, encouraging them to notice the marks and movements they made. Throughout the activity Mya encouraged positive relationships between the children, modelling sharing and turn-taking using the chalks, encouraging the children’s developing social skills as well as physical development and early mark-making.

Mya will have the full support of the team throughout her time at Townhouse to help her grow into a skilled and reflective practitioner and her role will be developing and growing at all times. Encouraging Mya to develop further next steps and interests from her activity is one of the many ways we will help her to think about the learning opportunities in children’s play and support her to extend and develop these further. Welcome to Townhouse Mya, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for you!
